The group of research partners represented by the GardenAfrica Organic Project and Dr Mukute (lead researcher) involves Social Learning Innovations (lead researcher’s organisation), the Zimbabwe Organic Producers and Promoters Association (ZOPPA), Fambidzanai Permaculture Centre (FPC) and GardenAfrica Organic Agriculture Project who are collaborating to establish expansive social learning across 40 farmer organisations to enable farmers to respond to emerging issues at the food-water-climate nexus (the case). The lead researcher (Dr Mukute) has a PhD in transformative social learning.

Dr Mutizwa Mukute has 25 years experience in facilitating learning and innovation in the fields of Natural Resources Management and sustainable agriculture. He • Was awarded a Certificate of Outstanding Leadership by Participatory Ecological Land Use Management Association – PELUM (2005) and a Certificate of Outstanding Contribution by the Eastern and Southern African Small Scale Farmers’ Forum (ESAFF) (2014): • Successfully coordinated the development and implementation of a multi-disciplinary curriculum on agro-ecology and community development, covering social, economic and ecological dimensions of development (1995-1998). It was jointly implemented by universities, NGOs and government (inter institutional collaboration); • Co-founded Ground Up and The Harvester developmental magazines; • Expanded and deepened of PELUM Association as its Regional Director (1998-2005); • Facilitated the formation and development of ESAFF (since 2002); and • Co-founded Promotion of Local Innovation.

Georgina McAllister co-founded GardenAfrica 13 years ago, where she co-developed and managed the plant-based livelihoods programme with local CSOs in Southern and East Africa. She has spent the last 21 years spanning both humanitarian and development sectors in European, Middle Eastern, South East Asian, Pacific and sub-Saharan African contexts. She has a 1st class BA hons in Peace Studies (politics & society) from the University of Bradford, and an MA with distinction in Post War Recovery from the University of York. George co-founded GardenAfrica in 2002 where she is the director of programmes with specific focus on plant-based livelihoods, co-developing and managing agroecology projects with CSOs in Southern and East Africa.
